Dame Ruby Bute National Short Story Contest
When MECYS set out to launch the 1st Annual Dame Ruby Bute National Short Story Contest, the goal was to spark imagination and nurture a new generation of storytellers on St. Maarten. With the theme Caribbean Futurism, students were invited to envision bold futures where technology, education, and culture came together to shape their island.
The campaign needed to excite young writers and clearly communicate the contest rules while honoring the legacy of Dame Ruby Bute. The solution was a vibrant social media rollout, with graphics designed for multiple platforms, each balancing bold colors, approachable illustrations, and clear typography. Every detail, from sponsor placement to QR codes, was integrated seamlessly so the contest felt both official and engaging.
The result was a digital campaign that captured attention across platforms, connected directly with students and parents, and set the stage for a new annual tradition in youth storytelling. By making the information visually accessible and fun, MECYS positioned literacy not just as an academic pursuit, but as a celebration of creativity and culture.
